Can I have a show of hands?

Who likes to move?

Nobody? - Really? - Yeah, me neither, and I’ve moved plenty in my life; but, my experience in the past few months has topped them all! I call it The Move When We Didn’t Move.

We have a plan to buy a new house this summer, move in, and make it our last move - ever! We mentioned this to our landlady, essentially giving her plenty of notice that we’d be moving to a bigger house and a better neighborhood. She replied, “Well, I have just the house for you! But it’s for rent. Would you like to look at it?” Of course we did. It was the perfect house for us, so we bit - and suddenly we had three weeks to pack and move!

I dropped everything I was doing, and started packing. Then, eight days before we were supposed to move, our landlady called and said, “The people who are moving into your house have to be out in three days. Can you be out in three days?”

Holy moly! I started packing every single minute. I invited friends over to help me pack. I quit cooking. (Or, I quit feeling bad about not cooking.) And I was ready to move right now!

It turned out our landlady was trying to get the people out of our new house, us into our new house, and the new people into our house - on the same weekend! Well, logistically speaking, that doesn’t work. After much discussion, we bowed out. We called our landlady and told her to let the new people have our new house and we would stay where we were.

So, there I was, in a house full of boxes and no place to go. I opened the first one and started to put things away. “If we’re not moving, we’'re going to buy new furniture!” So, we did! But, I still don’t know where all my thread is hiding.

How to Use Small, Leftover Pieces of Cotton Batting
Tutorial

When making quilts, we can buy packages of batting the exact size needed. However, we often make quilts in different size categories such as kennel quilts, placemats, mug rugs, wall, and table, etc. Whether we buy in those sizes or by the roll or batt, we end up with leftover pieces of batting we don’t want to waste but don’t know what to do with. Those pieces can be stitched together to obtain whatever size we happen to need.

Check out tutorial #17 to see how.

Follow the Stars - New Mystery!

We begin a new mystery quilt by Bev Crouse called Follow the Stars.

Sometimes the most enjoyable experiences in life happen when you’re not making plans. Perhaps you’re out for a walk in the park and meet a friend you’ve not seen recently. Or, you may have dropped into a new or favourite fabric shop and happened upon a fabric you just can’t go home without. Mystery Quilts are something like that. You know you’re going to enjoy the experience, but are not sure exactly what the end result will be.

My hope with this mystery quilt is that you will enjoy both the journey and the destination. A combination of piecework and foundation-piecing with a curve thrown in for good measure, this lap quilt is perfect for both confident beginners as well as more experienced quilters.

Be sure to join Bev in the Follow the Stars Mystery Quilt group on Pattern Pastiche, The Quilt Pattern Magazine’s private online quilters’ community. There, you can get answers to any questions you might have, share your progress, and see what others are doing. Don’t forget you can post pictures of your in-progress Follow the Stars Mystery Quilt as well!
